When
walking through the city of Avalon, you will see tile murals with
scenes depicting tropical birds and underwater scenes. These bird
murals were first created for the Catalina Bird Park, which was
at the time the world's largest bird collection.
While
many of these original tile installations remain, many more have
deteriorated over time. Tiles found inland and tiles that are
somewhat protected from the elements (and tourists) have remained
in reasonably good condition. Tile panels were also sold for interior
use installed in tables and wrought iron frames.
Miller
Art Tile has been reproducing tiles to replace many of the deteriorated
installations. Tile installations include The Heliport Terminal,
Catalina Visitor's Information Center, CC Gallagher exterior molded
tiles, the El Encanto Marketplace, the Catalina Country Club, and many others.
